What would you do if someone in your band told you that you had to do covers? Just a couple covers when you play your set live. Let's say that your band is serious, and you want to make it as an original band. Does it suck to do covers, or does it suck that someone is making you do something that you don't want to do? I'd like to hear what everyone has to say about this. Do covers help or hurt you?

That totally sucks. In my opinion, thats a sell out thing to do. I think you should find a band with people who are on the same page.

Covers aren't right. How are you gonna establish an original sound when your playin' someone elses music. Second off how can you do justice to the people who originated the song, sure it might of sucked how they played it but it was good enough to be recorded and signed so how can you do any justice to that. We've done one cover, and that was Amir of the Desert(from 1st coal chamber), just vox and drums and that is why we did it. But it's not worth wastin' your time doin' any covers, instead you could write and amazing song of your own. Just keep it real. Peace, Humpy-ds

Covers are kool just to do for fun. We covered "blind" by Korn just for the hell of it. and it was horrible! but it was funny. I think DownStitch was watching at the time.

On one hand, playing covers gets your foot in the door of more venues, gets you more money, and puts your original material in front of more people.
On the other hand, are all the opinions above. 6 of one, half-dozen of the other.
We don't play covers.
